Life can be stressful, challenging, and overwhelming at times. You may be feeling stuck, uncertain, or burnt out and deeply desire change, but are struggling to make the change you want to experience. You may be in a transition point in your life, and are unsure of what to do or how to claim your power. You may have experienced discrimination, microaggressions, racism, and systemic or gendered oppression.

At Just This Counseling, we will work together to help you discover, or rediscover, grounding and presence. It is from this empowered space that you will then be able to explore and process past experiences, trauma, and the stories and patterns you have been living from in order to experience healing and growth for yourself and move forward with hope and purpose.

I am here to facilitate and support you in the process, to hold space for you with curiosity, warmth, and empathy.

About me

Welcome -- I’m glad you’re here! My name is Kari Stubbert, MA, NCC. Having gained experience working in university and community mental health settings, I am excited to be opening my own private practice in 2024! I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Bushnell University, and am a Nationally Certified Counselor with the National Board for Certified Counselors.

I am a Professional Counselor Associate with the State of Oregon (#R8778), and am supervised by Tever Nickerson, NCC, LPC. In my practice I follow the Code of Ethics established by the American Counseling Association, and the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists. I currently serve on the board of the Oregon Counseling Association.

Background & Approach

Prior to pursuing my counseling career, I worked in both administrative and direct care roles within non-profit and educational settings. Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, I live in Eugene, Oregon with my husband, three children, and our adorable goldendoodle, Ozzy. I thrive by moving my body in nature, and am a three-time marathoner. I quickly get absorbed reading memoirs, literary fiction, and the latest in psychology and neuroscience.

The presence of my first therapist was healing and inspiring at a critical point in my life. I had never before sat with someone so tuned in and attentive, who saw me, who was able to pull out the important questions, and who remembered my stories and patiently walked along with me to the other side. It is my desire to create a unique space of processing, healing, and growth for you, similar to those that have been provided for me.

I utilize an integrative, anti-racist, and trauma-informed approach in my work, drawing from Person-Centered, Internal Family Systems, Attachment Theory, Mindfulness, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Somatic, and Mindful Self-Compassion techniques in my practice.

Why “Just This?”

“Just this” speaks to the power of honing in on the present moment, showing up for ourselves, being mindful, and of taking intentional action. The name “just this” speaks to what I am looking to create with you during our sessions. It is about what I want to encourage in myself, and help others build in their lives.
